About Us

A Brief History of One Myanmar Community

One Myanmar Community (OMC) (formerly known as Burmese Youth Association (BYA)) was founded on October 12, 2007 by a group of Myanmar students and friends from San Francisco Bay Area to empower the Myanmar community, to bridge between Myanmar and non-Myanmar organizations, to support education and career networking for new immigrants and youths from Myanmar (Burma), and to promote all Myanmar ethnic cultures to international community.

Since its founding in 2007, OMC has been actively participating and initiating all the events and activities that will benefit the whole Burmese community of SF Bay Area and the United States of America such as promoting U.S Census 2010 in the Burmese community and many other community and cultural events (please see detailed descriptions of the OMC under activities and events). OMC adopted its By-laws in 2009 and held its first election on February 13, 2010 to elect the first Board of Directors of OMC.

OMC was granted non-profit 501(c)3 organization status on December 19, 2012. OMC is currently supporting Myanmar Community and Cultural Center of Northern California, located at 33511 Western Avenue, Union City, CA 94587.
